Three-time winners of the Stanbic Bank Uganda Cup URA FC were knocked out of this year’s tournament on Monday, February 6 after suffering a shock defeat at the hands of lower division Uganda Pentecostal University FC.
After drawing 2-2 in normal time, URA were shown the exit by the Kitara region side on 4-3 penalty shootout victory in a game played in Kabarole.
Meanwhile, joint record cup winners KCCA FC advanced to the round-of-32 after beating Kampala regional side Kampala Junior Team (KJT) FC 3-0 in another match played at Bugolobi Coffee playground on Monday.
The ended with both teams one man less after KJT’s goalkeeper and Najib Muwonge and KCCA’s Geoffrey Wasswa were red carded.
Elsewhere, FUFA Big League side Calvary FC eliminated Eastern Region side Budondo United FC after a 1-0 victory at Budondo Sub County Grounds.
Monday’s games concluded the round-of-64, with 32 teams progressing to the next round of the tournament.
The teams that qualified include Uganda Pentecostal University FC, Calvary FC, KCCA FC, Elite FC, Express FC, UPDF FC, Bright Stars FC, Onduparaka FC, Mbarara City FC, Paidha Black Angels FC, Kigezi HomeBoyz FC, Mbale Heroes FC, Adjumani Town Council FC, Lugazi FC.
