Former champions KCCA FC, reeling from last weekend’s dramatic exit from the Stanbic Uganda Cup at the hands of BUL FC, are back in action today. They face Mbarara City in a crucial StarTimes Uganda Premier League clash.

The Lugogo-based squad was edged out of the Uganda Cup, losing 5-6 to BUL on post-match penalties in the quarterfinals. This tournament represented their last shot at silverware for the season.

Under the lights tonight at Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, Coach Abdul Mubiru’s Kasasiro boys enter the pitch with heavy hearts but not without hope. Despite their recent setback, KCCA still has a slim chance to clinch the league title or secure a top-five finish if they can sweep their remaining seven games. This crucial matchup against Mbarara could be a perfect opportunity for redemption.

Currently, KCCA holds the sixth spot on the table with 35 points from 22 games. Kitara FC leads the 16-team league with 44 points from 23 matches, closely followed by BUL FC, Vipers, SC Villa, and NEC FC.

This weekend’s highlight is set for Friday, April 19, at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, where Vipers seek vengeance against Kitara following a stinging 2-5 loss in last Sunday’s Uganda Cup quarterfinals via penalties. A victory for Vipers could propel them to the top of the standings, while another triumph for Kitara might solidify their dreams of a first league title.

Elsewhere, title hopefuls BUL FC and SC Villa are gearing up for their fixtures against Express FC and Bright Stars this Saturday (April 20) and Sunday (April 21), respectively. Each game could drastically alter the league’s pecking order as the season races towards an exhilarating climax.
