KAMPALA – In a thrilling StarTimes Uganda Premier League showdown, Living Kabon’s dramatic injury-time header propelled Kitara FC to a 2-1 victory over Express FC at Wankulukuku on Wednesday, April 24. Kabon’s decisive goal in the seventh minute of added time clinched Kitara’s return to the top of the league standings and completed their season sweep over Express FC, following their initial 2-0 win in Masindi last year.

The Royals, as Kitara FC are affectionately known, watched Kabon earn the man-of-the-match honors for his late-game heroics. The match had its share of tension as Express FC initially took the lead with Isaac Wagoina converting a penalty in the 17th minute. However, Denis Omedi brought Kitara level, netting an equalizer just seven minutes later.

This victory positions Kitara FC at the summit of the 16-team table, amassing 47 points from 25 matches, narrowly ahead of the defending champions, Vipers, who sit just one point behind with a game in hand.

NAMBOOLE TEST GAMES SET

The Stanbic Uganda Cup semifinal draws have set the stage for a thrilling climax, with three StarTimes Uganda Premier League clubs—NEC FC, Kitara FC, and BUL FC—making the cut. The draws, conducted on April 22, have prompted fixture adjustments to accommodate the semifinal clashes slated for April 27-28 (1st Leg) and May 4-5 (2nd Leg), 2024.

Amid these adjustments, the league has rescheduled some key fixtures. The clash between Express FC and NEC FC initially set for April 30, has been pushed to May 1, 2024. Similarly, the match between Soltilo Bright Stars FC and NEC FC, originally scheduled for May 7, will now take place on May 8, 2024.

In a related announcement, the Uganda Premier League secretariat has orchestrated a spectacular double-header at the newly refurbished Mandela National Stadium, Namboole. On May 1, fans will be treated to a showdown between BUL and Vipers at 4 p.m., followed by KCCA versus SC Villa at 7 pm. These matches, according to Paul Kabaikaramu, the chief executive of the Uganda Premier League, serve as test events for the stadium, which has undergone extensive renovations over the past two years. This renovation has displaced the Uganda Cranes, forcing them to host their home matches in Morocco and Egypt.
