Uganda’s Moses Magogo lost to Sudanese Dr Mutasim Gafar in a poll conducted today, July 13 to fill one of the positions on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) executive committee.

Currently, Magogo, who is also a legislator for Budiope East in the Ugandan Parliament, is president of FUFA, the local football governing body.

In Thursday’s poll, Sudan’s Gafar garnered 34 votes against Magogo’s 20 to win the CAF Exco seat.

Gafar will now represent the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) region on the CAF executive committee.

The election was conducted at the ongoing 45th CAF Ordinary General Assembly in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

World football body president Gianni Infantino is also attending the CAF assembly as one of the high-profile guests.

Magogo has previously served on the CAF Exco as a member. Ugandan football officials were saddened by the news of his exit from the executive of the continental body.

“It’s certainly a big setback for our game but he (Magogo) remains influential through other positions,” Ahmed Hussein Marsha, the spokesman of FUFA, said on Thursday.

Beyond Kyankwanzi Lies Uganda’s Next Public Service Revolution

    By Kalikumutima DeoJune 19, 20260

Uganda has spent decades developing policies and reform strategies, but citizens judge government differently—by whether services are delivered efficiently and fairly. A new commentary argues that the country’s next phase of transformation must focus on faster service delivery, accountability, meritocracy and a citizen-first culture if public trust and economic growth are to improve.
