Vipers SC completed their first-ever domestic league and cup double triumph on Saturday, June 3 after beating Police FC 1-0 in the Stanbic Uganda Cup final at the Akii-Bua Memorial stadium in Lira.

Milton Karisa scored Vipers’ solitary winner in the closely-contested final.

The Uganda Cup victory over Police means Vipers, who were the StarTimes Uganda Premier League last week, sealed the first domestic double triumph.

And in so doing, Vipers emulated SC Villa who won the double cup and league twice in their glory days.

Overall, Saturday’s triumph is Vipers’ third Uganda Cup success in the period of seven years, with their previous wins coming in 2016 and 2021.

Coach Alex Isabirye, who joined Vipers in March this year after the sacking of Brazilian Bianchi Beto, takes the credit for turning the Venoms into double winners in such a short period.

Signed from BUL FC, Isabirye came when Vipers’ season was in shambles after a disastrous campaign in the CAF Champions League coupled with uninspiring draws in the domestic competitions.

On Saturday night, Isabirye joined hundreds of Vipers’ supporters and players to revel in the club’s double success.

“I know many people wanted me to fail but God has rewarded our hard work and everyone at the club is happy. I salute the players and all my staff,” Isabirye said.

For Police, the loss to Vipers is another soar scar in the season of near misses for them. Two week ago, Coach Angelo Lonyesi’s side narrowly missed out promotion from the FUFA Big League to the StarTimes Premier League after losing to NEC FC in the play-off.
