Local rugby traditional rivals, the Stanbic Pirates and the Kobs will clash on Saturday, May 13 in the league title decider at the Legends grounds, Lugogo.
For the Pirates, the game is a must-win affair if they are to end the five-year title spell. The expectations are indeed high in the Pirates as they prepare for Saturday’s season finale.
Nathan Bwambale, who was part of Pirates’ league title winning squad 2018, stated: “We have been formidable all through; so, we are eager to end the season with a title on that day.
“Our success [on Saturday, May 13] is not going to depend on what we did in 2018 but on the fact that we have been improving in each game this season.”
Going into Saturday’s decider, the Pirates and the Kobs are tied on 75 points apiece.
However, the Kobs, who are eyeing their 15th league title, only need a draw to triumph as they have a bigger difference between scores accrued and conceded. The Kobs have a 523-point score difference compared to the Pirates’ 335.
In their first round meeting, the Kobs beat the Pirates 30-25.
It is this kind of result the Pirates must avoid on Saturday.
In the 2021 season, the two teams meet in a similar decider and the Kobs beat the Pirates 15-05 to win the title.
