Ugandan league champions Vipers SC continued with their disastrous campaign in the CAF Champions League on Tuesday, March 7 after another defeat at the hands of Tanzania’s Simba SC.
Playing before their home crowd in Dar es Salaam, Simba beat Vipers 1-0 to complete a double over the StarTimes Uganda League champions. Simba defeated Vipers at Kitende on the same score margin last week.
The defeat means Vipers remain bottom of Group C, with just one point after four games. It also effectively condemns the Venoms to exit door of their continental campaign.
In Tuesday’s match, Clatous Chama scored on the stroke of halftime to give hosts Simba victory. Yunus Sentamu had Vipers’ would-be maiden goal at this stage of the competition disallowed for offside.
Vipers, who are featuring in the CAF Champions League’s money-spinning group stage for the first time, are yet to score a goal in four matches. They have, however, conceded seven goals.
They lost 0-5 to Morocco’s Raja Casablanca in the opening game last month, drew (0-0) with Horoya AC of Guinea Conakry before the back-to-back (0-1) losses to Simba.
Currently, unbeaten Raja Casablanca leads the group with 12 points followed by Simba on six points while Horoya are third with four points.
Vipers’ next game will be against Raja Casablanca on March 18 at the St Mary’s stadium, Kitende. They will wind up against Horoya on March 31 in Conakry.
