The battle for this season’s StarTimes Uganda Premier League title is poised for a thrilling final bend after Bright Stars FC stunned Vipers 1-0 on Tuesday (May 9) to set up a win-or-bust situation in the remaining four fixtures.

Currently, table leaders SC Villa, second-placed Vipers and third-placed KCCA FC are locked in a three-way tight race for the league crown. The three teams are separated by just one point.

SC Villa, who are vying to win the league title for the first time 19 years, lead the 15-team log with 46 points from 25 games. They have three games left against UPDF FC, Blacks Power FC and former champions URA FC.

Vipers, the defending champions, blew the chance to topple Villa on Tuesday after their 0-1 to Bright Stars. South Sudanese striker Emmanuel Loki scored Bright Stars’ solitary winner at Kavumba Recreation Ground to deny Vipers the chance to go top of the table.

However, Vipers have another chance to topple Villa when they play Onduparaka FC in their next game slated for Friday, May 12 in Arua.

Meanwhile, third-placed KCCA FC (45 points from 24 games but with less goal difference compared to Vipers), will return to action on Saturday, May 13 against Express FC at the Muteesa II stadium, Wankulukuku.

This is one of the tightest races for the league title in recent years.
