Commonwealth champion Jacob Kiplimo picked up the monthly Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) Sports Personality for February award following his recent World Cross Country victory.

During their monthly assembly held on March 6 at Imperial Royale hotel in Kampala, the sports journalists unanimously voted Kiplimo for the accolade.

On February 18, 2023, Kiplimo struck gold after winning the World Cross Country Championship race held in Bathurst, Australia.

His compatriot, Joshua Cheptegei settled for a bronze medal in the same race.

Kiplimo is also the reigning Commonwealth 5,000m and 10,000m champion.

Meanwhile, the USPA assembly also voted badminton player, Eric Ofuyuru, for the Promising Talent award during Monday’s meeting.

The 14-year-old Ofuyuru, from Pearl of Africa Badminton Academy, excelled at the Uganda Junior International Challenge event last month. He is the 2021 World Secondary School Badminton Champion and National School Games Most Valuable Player.

The scribes also recommended Fadilah Shamikah Mohammed Raif after winning gold in Women’s singles category at the All Africa Senior Badminton Championships in South Africa and the national women’s basketball team, the Gazelles, who finished runners up in the Zone V Afro Basket Championship last month.
