The senior national football team, Uganda Cranes, will soon regroup to prepare for the final Group F game against Niger in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

This is after head coach Milutin Sredojevic released a 33-player squad on Monday, August 14 to start preparations for the game due on September 7.

Niger will host the game at the Grand stade Marrakech in Morocco.

The Cranes provisional squad includes goalkeepers Watenga Isima (Golden Arrows FC, South Africa), Magoola Salim Omar (Richards Bay FC, South Africa), Lukwago Charles (Unattached), Alionzi Nafian (Unattached), Mutakubwa Joel (BUL FC, Uganda); defenders Semakula Kenneth (SC Villa, Uganda), Begisa James (URA FC, Uganda), Muleme Isaac (Viktoria Zizkov, Czech Republic), Awany Timothy (SC Ashdod, Israel), Lwaliwa Halidi (FK Bregalnica Stip, North Macedonia), Gift Fred (Yanga SC, Tanzania), Mugabi Bevis (Motherwell FC, Scotland), Musa Ramathan (VFK Vyskov, Czech Republic), Wasswa Geofrey (Ethiopian Buna SC, Ethiopia), Bwomono Elvis (IBV Vestamanyaer, Iceland), Kayondo Abdu Aziizi (AC Leganes, Spain).

Others are midfielders Aucho Khalid (Yanga SC, Tanzania), Byaruhanga Bobosi (Austin FC, USA), Sentamu Siraje (Vipers SC, Uganda), Lwanga Taddeo (APR FC, Rwanda), Ndhondhi Moses Waiswa (KCCA FC, Uganda), Karisa Milton (Vipers SC, Uganda), Mutyaba Travis (SC Villa, Uganda), Mugulusi Isma (Feirense, Portugal), Mato Rogers (Sanliurfaspor, Turkey), Ochaya Joseph (Al Makawloon, Egypt), Miya Faruku (Caykur Rizespor, Turkey), Tibita Laban (URA FC, Uganda), Kasule Ibrahim (New York Red Bull II, USA); and forwards Okwi Emmanuel (Erbil SC, Iraq), Bayo Fahad (VFK Vyskov, Czech Republic), Basangwa Richard (Wadi Degla SC, Egypt) and Ssebufu Frank (New York Redbull II, USA).

Micho expects all the players summoned to report for residential camp in Kampala by August 28.

Going into the game against Niger, the Uganda Cranes, who lie third in Group F with four points, have an outside chance. The Cranes can still qualify for the AFCON finals if they beat Niger and pray that Algeria defeat Tanzania on the same day.

Algeria, who top the group with 15 points, have already qualified for the tournament finals to be staged in Ivory Coast next year.

Tanzania are second with seven points while Niger lie bottom of the group with just two points from five games.
