The 2023 FUFA Drum tournament is set to kick off on Saturday, June 24 and Sunday June 25, with four games in the first round of qualifiers.

Eight teams, representing Ankole, Bunyoro, Busoga, Bukedi, Karamoja, Kigezi, Sebei and Rwenzori regions will be in action.

According to a revised format of play, the qualifiers will be played on a home-and-away basis. The winners over the two legs advance to the next round.

In the opening fixtures on Saturday, Bunyoro will host Sebei at Kigaaya Primary School playground in Hoima while Bukedi welcome Ankole at the St George stadium in Tororo.

In Sunday’s scheduled games, Busoga will host Karamoja at Kamuli Municipal stadium while Kigezi visit Rwenzori at the Nyakasanga playground in Kasese.

Defending champions West Nile, who defeated Lango in the final played earlier this year to win the 2022 edition of the tournament, will join the competition in the next round.

The other teams expected to joining the fray in the next round include Kampala, Tooro, former champions Buganda and Acholi.

Local football governing body, FUFA, says the tournament will help them in spotting talent while popularizing the game at the same time.
