RESULTS:
Uganda 1 Algeria 2
Tanzania 1 Niger 0
Mohamed El Amine Amoura scored twice as Algeria defeated Uganda Cranes 2-1 in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier played Sunday, June 18 at the Japoma stadium in Douala, Cameroon.
Fahad Bayo replied for the Cranes with a late goal in a game dominated by the Algerians.
The result further dents Uganda’s chances of qualifying for the AFCON Finals due next year in Ivory Coast while Algeria, the Group F leaders, maintained their 100 percent record with five consecutive wins.
Uganda Cranes remain third in the group with four points from five games and their chances of making it to finals now depend on third-placed Tanzania failing to beat or draw with Algeria in the final round of qualifiers due on September 4.
Tanzania beat bottom-placed Niger 1-0 on Sunday to affirm their grip on the runners-up slot with seven points from five games.
The Cranes final game will be against Niger on September 4.
