In a recent statement, Minister for the Presidency, Babirye Milly Babalanda, shed light on the forthcoming commemoration of the 38th NRM/A Victory Day Anniversary, scheduled for Friday, January 26. This event holds profound significance as it marks not just an ordinary holiday but a solemn tribute to a heroic struggle led by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, accompanied by numerous courageous individuals, both men and women, who dedicated themselves to achieving fundamental change in Uganda.

The statement recounted how, back in 1987, the Cabinet had marked the 26th of January as a public holiday under Extract 437, turning it into a day for reflection on the collective and individual sacrifices made for the country’s liberation. This year, the vibrant city of Jinja was chosen to host the celebrations at St. John SSS Wakitaka Playgrounds in the Jinja Northern Division, a place befitting the grandeur of such an event.

With a theme that resonated deeply with the Ugandan spirit, “Building a Country we All Cherish,” aligned with the NRM Manifesto 2021-26, the celebrations are to reflect on the past sacrifices and the ongoing journey towards a prosperous Uganda. According to the statement, about 800 dignitaries have been invited. The public, the statement noted, was also eagerly anticipated to join in large numbers, with no requirement for invitation cards or COVID-19 tests.

However, the minister added a note of suspense, mentioning that no state visitors had been confirmed yet, though updates would follow if there were any new developments. Security is a paramount concern, and Minister Babalanda assured that the Uganda Police Force, supported by specialized units, was ready to ensure the safety of everyone present.

A highlight of the event would be the awarding of medals to 53 deserving personalities, including the revered former Kyabazinga of Busoga, His Royal Highness Henry Wako Muloki, OBE.

Reflecting on the achievements of the NRM government, Minister Babalanda spoke of significant growth across various sectors—the economy, electricity generation, road infrastructure, and more. She emphasized the spirit of patriotism and the role of the media in fostering national transformation.

In her concluding remarks, Minister Babalanda called for a collective mindset change, a renewed fight against corruption, and the promotion of value-added Ugandan products.
