Striker Fazila Ikwaput hit a hat-trick as Kampala Queens won their opening game 3-0 over South Sudan’s Yei Joint Stars FC in the CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers 2023 tournament.
The Group A game was played on Saturday, August 12 at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru as the tournament kicked off.
Ethiopia’s Commercial Bank (CBE) FC defeated Buja Queens of Burundi in the other Group A game played at the same venue.
Kampala Queens, who are the Ugandan women’s Super League champions, are hosting the tournament that has attracted eight clubs from the Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Sudan and Zanzibar.
Games in Group B get underway on Sunday, August 13 when Vihiga Queens from Kenya take on Zanzibar’s New Generation FC while AS Kigali will play Tanzania’s JKT FC at the Phillip Omondi stadium, Lugogo.
