Man City won the UEFA Champions League after beating Inter Milan 1-0 on Saturday (June 10) night and completed their maiden league, FA Cup and European Cup treble. It is Man City’s first-ever Champions League triumph.
Rodrigo Fernandez Rodri scored the lone winner for Man City in the closely-contested final at the Ataturk Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey.
By winning the English Premier League, FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League trophies in the same season, Man City emulated their cross city rivals Man United, who achieved similar feat in 1999 under Sir Alex Ferguson.
In Saturday’s final, Man City came up against formidable opposition in the form of Inter but they prevailed, thanks to Rodri’s second-half goal.
Pep Guardiola’s side proved why they have dominant in winning the league and FA Cup earlier by keeping Inter at bay when the Italian outfit threatened comeback into the game.
Particularly, Man City’s Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson was impressive as he pulled off two stunning saves at the death to repel Inter as they went in search of a late equaliser.
This is Guardiola’s third third Champions League title, having won the 2009 and 2011 editions with former club Barcelona.
