Sunday, February 5@4pm:
Kajjansi United v Express FC
Elite FC v Arua Hill
Express FC, the record ten-time Uganda Cup winners, will kick off their campaign in the 2022/23 tournament against Kampala regional side Kajjansi United in the round-of-64 at Uganda Clays Grounds on Sunday, February 5.
Express has endured a tough season so far in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League and is hoping they can make amends in the Uganda Cup.
At the pre-match media briefing on Friday, head coach James Odoch said: “We have a rich history in this competition and we shall be striving for the best start with the game against Kajjansi.
“Although we have won the Uganda Cup the most times, it has been long since we last did, and we would like to attach ourselves to what is ours again.”
Odoch added: “It is still in the early stages with many other top teams but if we are to win anything this season it definitely has to be the Uganda Cup.”
“We shall get underway against one of the trickiest and most stubborn teams but we have prepared well and we should be in position to get past them.”
Express, fondly nicknamed ‘The Red Eagles’ by their fans, last won the Uganda Cup in 2007. They were eliminated by their bitter rivals SC Villa in the round-of 32-last season.
Another fixture on Sunday will be between Uganda Premier League side Arua Hill SC and North Eastern Region side Elite FC at Lira Integrated School.
It is at this stage that Arua Hill got eliminated last season by West Nile Regional League side Tipsa FC.
Meanwhile, former Cup winners Mbale Heroes qualified for the round-of-32 on Friday, February 3 after beating Araka 2-0 at Mbale stadium.
