Africa fails to make the list.

C-NEWS BUREAU CHIEF

In a recent report released by Travelness, a leading travel and tourism analysis firm, the top 20 most visited cities in the world for the year 2023 have been unveiled. These rankings, based on the total number of international visitors, provide a glimpse into the global destinations that attracted the most attention from travelers. Let’s take a closer look at the cities that made it to the top of the list:

  1. Bangkok: 22.78 million visitors

Bangkok, the vibrant capital of Thailand, takes the top spot with an impressive 22.78 million visitors in 2023. Known for its rich culture, bustling markets, and delicious street food, Bangkok continues to be a magnet for tourists.

  1. Paris: 19.10 million visitors

The City of Love, Paris, ranks second with 19.10 million visitors. Its iconic landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and Louvre Museum continue to captivate travelers from around the world.

  1. London: 19.09 million visitors

London closely follows Paris with 19.09 million visitors. This historic city offers a mix of tradition and modernity, with attractions ranging from Buckingham Palace to the vibrant West End theater scene.

  1. Dubai: 15.93 million visitors

Dubai, a city synonymous with luxury and innovation, secured the fourth spot with 15.93 million visitors. Its stunning skyscrapers, shopping extravaganzas, and desert adventures draw tourists seeking opulence and adventure.

  1. Singapore: 14.67 million visitors

Singapore, a compact island nation, ranks fifth with 14.67 million visitors. Renowned for its cleanliness and futuristic architecture, it continues to attract travelers interested in its blend of cultures and culinary delights.

The list continues, with cities like Kuala Lumpur, New York, Istanbul, Tokyo, and others making it to the top 20. These cities offer a diverse range of experiences, from historic landmarks to modern marvels, ensuring that there’s something for every type of traveler.

It’s important to note that these rankings are based on total international visitors, highlighting the enduring appeal of these global destinations.

Africa

Despite the wealth of cultural and natural wonders that the African continent has to offer, it’s noteworthy that none of its cities found a place in the top 20 most visited destinations of 2023, as revealed by Travelness. While Africa boasts stunning landscapes, rich history, and vibrant cultures, it faces unique challenges in attracting international tourists, including issues related to infrastructure, accessibility, and perceptions of safety. Nonetheless, the absence of African cities from this list underscores the untapped potential and opportunities for the continent’s tourism industry to further develop and promote its unique offerings, drawing global travelers to explore its diverse and enchanting destinations in the future.
